According to NFHS-5, for the first time in India, the birth rate has fallen below the replacement ratio of 21. According to the survey the country’s fertility rate has come down to just 2 from 2.2 in the NFHS-4 (2015- 2016) and 2.7 in the NHHS-3 (2005-2006).
